Editor's note: The Office of Compliance and Field Operations of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) sent a letter stating that they are considering the use of children's homemade casual clothes as children's pajamas, and they are required to strictly comply with the Flammable Fabrics Act. (Flammable Fabrics Act) Section 16 CFR part 1615 and 1616 on the requirements for children's pajamas combustion performance standards.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Office of Compliance and Field Operations issued a letter stating that they are considering the use of children's homemade casual clothes as children's pajamas, and they are required to strictly comply with the Flammable Fabrics Act. Section 16 CFR part 1615 and 1616 of Act) on requirements for children's pajamas' flammability standard.
This memo reaffirmed the CPSC's policy on home-based casual wear since 1996. It also emphasized the new requirement that home-style casual clothes and pajamas must now meet the requirements of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA).
These requirements include third-party testing, phthalate content, lead content, lead in surface coatings, and tracking tags.
It is also emphasized that these requirements apply not only to physical retailers but also to network vendors.
Children's sleeping flammability standards 16 CFR 1615 and 1616 are more stringent than ordinary clothing burning standards. Children's sleepwear is not only required to be tested during the final garment phase but also during the cloth and pattern stages.
According to the definition of CPSC, "children's pajamas" refers to all garments (sizes 0-14) worn during sleep or sleep-related activities, such as nightgown and pajamas, and similar or related items such as robes, etc. But does not include:
(1) diapers and underwear;
(2) "Baby clothing" for children up to 9 months of age;
(3) "tight-fitting clothing" that meets the specified maximum size.
